YEREVAN, JANUARY 27, ARMENPRESS:
Government-affiliated State Revenue Committee published the list of 300 biggest tax payers of Armenia for 2009. The list is topped by Armrusgasprom company which has paid 18.4 billion AMD, followed by “Alex-Grig” – 16.1 billion AMD and “K-Telecom” 15.9 billion AMD.

The largest importer of sugar in 2017 was Alex Holding, which had more than 86% share in the market, and if we add to it the affiliate company, Alex Grig, we will see that 87.5% of imports were accounted for by these companies.

The head of the antimonopoly regulator refrained from indicating  today what is the share of the "King of sugar", businessman Samvel  Aleksanyan, in the sugar market, only noting that his share has  fallen by about 20% over the past year and a half.  It should be  noted that the lion's share of the sugar market in Armenia  traditionally belongs to "Alex Holding", which is owned by ex-MP from  the Republican Party Samvel Aleksanyan. According to 2017 data, 85  companies were operating in the sugar market, although Alexanyan's  Alex Holding's share was 97%. In 2018, the number of companies  decreased by 10, and the share of Alex Holding, although it dropped  to 92%, it remained still high. According to media reports,  Aleksanyan continues to carry the honorary title "King of Sugar"  today.

About 97% of the 24,000 tons of sugar imported to Armenia in 2017 was imported by 11 companies:

News flash – Armenia now produces whiskey (whisky).

For the first time in history (at least in the last ten years), Armenia produced 325,000 liters of the distilled beverage according to the National Statistical Service.

Whether or not it’s drinkable and has any affinity with the real stuff is another matter.

In Armenia, the one man synonymous with whiskey is MP Samvel Aleksanyan, who also owns the Yerevan City chain of supermarkets.

There are currently two brands of whiskey on sale at Yerevan City – Mac Alex and Mac Grant. The two are produced by companies affiliated with Alexanyan.

Recently, a one liter bottle of Mac Grant (allegedly aged for 3 years) was on sale at Yerevan City for 1,150 AMD (US$2.40).
